Build Web Traffic
The Importance of Tracking Your Website Visitors
|
|

Tracking your website visitors is very important to do as a webmaster or blogger. Information to track about your visitors is easily available and vital to understanding the traffic of your website. Knowing where most of your visitors come from, how long your website visitors stay on your website, what pages they have viewed on your website, and what content on your website is the most popular are some of the things you can track to learn about and adjust to help the success of your website. Programs like Google Analytics and many others make all of this fast and easy to track. It is free to use and important to understand the traffic on your website. Learning where most of your website's traffic comes from can help you know what sources are working the best for you. You can then be more efficient by not wasting time promoting your website in ways that just are not working well. When you see what methods and sources are really bringing more web traffic to your website, you can understand what you should be doing more to promote your website or blog. When you learn what pages on your website are viewed the most, you can understand how other people view your website and where they go from first arriving to your website. Lets say a lot of people are leaving your website from the first page that they arrive at. One high possibility would then be that your website isn't easy to navigate. Try listing tabs for a menu in a easily visible spot to help your website's visitors. Add a list of your content that is organized and makes your content easy to find for whatever it is that people want to find. Doing this would help lead your visitors around your website and increase the amount of time that people stay on your website. Knowing what content on your website is most popular can also help you a lot. It gives you direct feedback about what the majority of your readers find useful or interesting. When you know important things like these, you can know what topics are critical to keep evaluating on and delivering helpful, useful, or interesting similar topics on your website because that is what your visitors are interested in. If you are not using tracking of your website visitors or some form of analytics, then simply put, you are not making the most out of your website or blog. When you do, you can learn so much and improve the quality of your website and the amount of traffic to your website. Knowing what promotion methods are increasing the popularity of your website is priceless. If you are blind in doing so, you are of course wasting some of your valuable time. Efficiency is vital. Use an analytics program and track the visitors of your website. You will be glad that you did.

PageRank Update - Twitter Profiles - Tosh
|
Today we are going to face an avalanche of Technology bloggers who can't help blogging about every intricate detail of Twitter in one way or another claiming that Google has devalued Twitter profiles in the search engine results pages (SERPs) or reduced the PageRank of profiles.
Whilst this is theoretically possible, it is also unlikely.
To understand why the change has happened
- You have to understand SEO, external and internal linking, and have an advanced knowledge of how PageRank works. This gives me another chance to drop a very blatant affiliate link to Stomping The Search Engines 2 which is probably the best value (just a measly $1) high quality SEO training online. (https://stompernet.infusionsoft.com/go/S2SL/SN347)
- You need to study Twitter Linking structure over a period of time - snapshot SEO is for cowboys - even what I am writing here isn't going to be highly accurate, because I don't have access to analytics, server logs etc, and telling a script to analyse every page of Twitter just isn't viable
I am not writing this just for another opportunity to pimp an affiliate link, but I am sick of poor SEO information out there among bloggers. I have suggested SEOs need to clean up old information, but to be honest, this is about as fundamental as it gets
I do have a fair understanding of SEO and linking structures, and I do monitor changes, not just the pretty toolbar PageRank Google updates every 3 months or so, or the ranking of my Twitter profile in the SERPs.
Here are a few of my more recent tweets on the topic:-
