adobe photoshop lightroom 4 available free to everyone
|
|
I'm just starting to get the hang of LIGHTROOM 3 and now Adobe is close to releasing it's newest version and best of all it's free.
Well, it's free to the end of March anyway. As of this lens I only had L.R. 4 since yesterday (1/14/12) so I won't waste your time with my incomplete overview but I will direct you to free videos done by the experts on this software.
I also have Photoshop Cs5 and use it almost everyday, as much as I would miss it if I didn't have it, Photoshop wasn't created exclusively for Photographers. Whereas Lightroom was designed for Photographers by Photographers and jam packed with digital tools to manage their digital collections.
Lightroom 4 is available to download for Mac or Windows users, you don't need a prior version installed on your computer to take advantage of this great offer.
Photographers don't procrastinate on this, download it. You won't regret it. I pinky swear.

change panel end marks using lightroom 3 presets
|
|
The official name Adobe gave to these Do-Hickey things is END MARK.
Each Module (there are 5) has left and right side panels, the END MARKS are found at the bottom of the last panel on each side.
Let me state this upfront, this tip won't increase your Photography or Editing skill one bit but it's another piece of the puzzle to understanding Lightroom better and besides it's kinda cool to know how to do it.

celebrities demanded what
|
|
We mere mortals may find these celebrities and there unusual requests strange and over the top but who among us wouldn't want our own attendant to dispose of our chewing gum like Mariah Carey reportedly demands.
If you were suddenly told you could ask for anything how long would it take before your demands make this list.
It's gonna be hard for everyday people to believe this stuff and I have no way to prove it other than including the source of my reporting.
Sit back, put your feet up and I'll change the Television channel to Fox News like Dick Cheney demands from the hotels he stays in.

saturate dull colors using the vibrance slider in adobe lightroom 3
|
|
Who doesn't like looking at Colorful landscape or flower photographs and nothing is more disappointing to the one taking them when you view them on your computer and the colors are somewhat dull.
I know what you are thinking? You'll just nudge the old Saturation slider a little and problem solved.
The problem with using the Saturation slider is it saturates all the colors in the image even the ones that are already saturated.
Whereas the VIBRANCE SLIDER works on dull colors the most and saturated colors the least.

lightroom 3 develop module before/after edit preview
|
|
There are so many features to love in Lightroom 3 it's hard for me to settle on which one is my favorite, but this one has to be in the running.
You no longer have to guess as to how your editing will change the image compared to the original.
Being able to see how different White Balance, Temperature, Exposure and other adjustments you make to the photo compares to the original image is priceless.
Lightroom's Before/After viewing feature allows you to put the original image next to a copy and apply your White Balance, Temperature, Exposure and other adjustments

importing photos from your hard drive into lightroom 3
|
|
If you just got Lightroom chances are good there will be photos on your hard drive that you will want to bring into your new software.
This will go faster and easier because you won't have to deal with a memory card and the card reader. I suggest you read my lens about setting Lightroom up the right way before you start importing photos in.
If you never gave any thought about how how your photos will be stored now is the time to do it while Lightroom is still new and empty of photos.

adobe's photoshop lightroom3 custom metadata template
|
|
You never know when one of your online photos will catch the eye of an Advertising executive who wants to use it in a global advertising campaign.
That might be stretching the example a little but hey, it could happen. The point is every photo should have some basic information including a way to get in touch with you and to let others know it is copyrighted.
Lightroom 3 gives Photographers the ability to create custom Metadata ( fancy way of saying Copyright Info ) templates.
You can create multiple templates, one with just basic information and one where you load the kitchen sink into.
I shoot a lot of Models so I have a template for Models with specific keywords and I could have another for when I photograph Products with keywords pertaining to this niche.

advantages of using adobe's DNG file format in lightroom 3
|
|
If the intro title sounds like Greek to you it's okay. As you get more involved with Photography you will start hearing & seeing the terms "JPEG & RAW" all over the place.
You may already have come across these words but figured it didn't have much use to you so you didn't give them a second thought and if you stay a birthday parties only type photographer you don't need to.
It's when you decide to take photography/editing seriously is when you should start considering what file format to shoot in.
This lens is not about whether you should shoot in jPeg or the Raw format. Personally I use both depending on the circumstances. This lens will give you information so you can make an educated decision if it makes sense to convert your RAW files to DNG format.

Creating Multiple Catalogs in Lightroom 3.
|
|
Lightroom 3 gives you the ability to create more than one catalog and switch back and forth between them.
You can have separate catalogs for Vacations, Sports, Hobbies etc.
It's a simple process to add and use multiple catalogs and if you have a collection approaching 20 or 30 thousand images you should give this feature a try.
This lens will guide you through the steps.

RENAMING YOUR PHOTOS ALREADY IN LIGHTROOM 3
|
|
Lightroom was designed to keep you organized so you might as well start with the name you give to your Photos. If you never bothered to name your Photos in the past, then they will come into Lightroom with that non-descriptive name your camera gave it.
It's very easy to rename them so lets get busy.

LIGHTROOM 3 lets you choose what Camera Info to display on your Photos
|
|
Lightroom 3 gives us Photographers a lot of options on how we view and display our Photos. One such option is what we see when we are in LOUPE VIEW (the zoomed in view of your photo).
To enter LOUPE VIEW from the Library Module's GRID view you can zoom in by using the pre-sets to the right of the word NAVIGATOR or:
* press the letter E
* press the SPACEBAR
* DOUBLE-CLICK on the Thumbnail itself
Lightroom gives you the option to display or not display camera information in the upper left corner of your image.
There are mixed feelings on this option. Some Photographers like to see the settings used to capture the image and others feel it is a distraction.
Personally I like seeing this data, however if you are one of those who don't, this lens will show you how to select what to display, how much to display and even turn this option off.

Customize Lightroom 3 by adding a Logo or your Name.
|
|
When you open Lightroom 3 you'll notice Adobe's Lightroom Logo in the upper left corner in each of the 5 modules. Wouldn't it be more impressive to have your name or logo there for a custom look. It adds a nice touch when making presentations to clients.
I like Adobe but if I have a choice I want my name or logo there. This lens will show you how to remove Adobe's Logo and replace it with your own.
You'll also be able to pick your FONT - SIZE - COLOR and customize the 5 Module names to match.

Turn the Lights Out when viewing your Photos in Lightroom 3
|
|
When viewing your photos whether it's trying to decide which ones to keep or previewing them with a client, its best to do it with as little distractions as possible.
This lens will show you how to hide all the distractions, like the panels and tool bars. Then black everything out except your photo.

Adobe Lightroom 3: Setting Lightroom 3 up the right way.
|
|
This piece of software will save you time and keep your photos organized, after all thats what it was designed to do.
However, keep in mind this is Software and not a magician. You have to give Lightroom a little help by setting your file system up efficiently.
The goal should be to keep all your Photos in one main FOLDER, the advantages are these:
* if you get another computer and need to transfer them to the new computer, there is only 1 folder to transfer
* you only have 1 folder to move to an External Hard Drive to back them up
* if you are looking for a particular photo, you know its in this one location
* within this main Folder you can have as many Folders as you want, separated by Year - Month - Clients Name etc
If you don't set up a folder system Lightroom by default will choose one for you, it will be your PICTURES and before you know it there will be tons of pictures in this folder, all unorganized.
I'm working on a Mac computer so you Pc users might not recognize this Folder Structure but the theory is the same. You want to keep all your Photos in one main folder.

Lightroom 3 lets you find your Photos fast using Keywords
|
|
Lightroom 3 doesn't require a spray paint can to Tag your photos. TAGGING is another way of saying your photo has Keywords assigned to it.
To Tag or not to Tag. That is the question. This will have to be answered by each photographer and by the way Tagging doesn't only apply to using Lightroom.
If you post your Images to the web ( like Flicker for instance), properly tagging them will help in search results.
Even casual Photographers will benefit from using Keywords assigned to their photos and if you are a Professional Photographer and don't tag, well shame on you.
My lens will show you how to tag and the benefits of doing it.

Lightroom 3 Xposed: Why you will love Adobe's digital darkroom.
|
|
Reasons why LIGHTROOM 3 isn't just another expensive Photography gadget.
1. You can't make any mistakes that will permanently damage your images. This software allows nondestructive editing.
2. This program was designed for Photograhers. This is a big program but the tools are easy to master unlike Photoshop which
has a steep learning curve.
3. It's Image management features allows you to ORGANIZE, RATE & LABEL and apply KEYWORDS.
4. Allows batch processing with the same exposure settings using PRESETS or the SYNC feature which saves you tons of time.
5. Has 64-bit support taking advantage of the memory handling capabilities of the latest Macs and Windows operating systems.
6. Impress your clients using elegant SLIDESHOWS with Music. Not only are they easy to create but you can export them as
Videos in high definition.
7. As far as editing goes, Lightroom is a mini Photoshop. It has the ability to work with RAW, JPEG, TIFF and other file formats. You can
do some of the same Photoshop effects right in Lightroom, DODGE & BURN, CONVERT TO BLACK & WHITE, ADJUST WHITE
BALANCE, EXPOSURE, ADD GRAIN, ADJUST SHARPNESS, CREATE VIGNETTES and much more.
8. State of the art Noise Reduction Technology at high ISO's.
9. Upload your Images to Flicker from within Lightroom 3. When comments are left on your photos, you can see them on your photos
in Lightroom's Library module.
10. Apply your favorite looks by saving them as a Preset or use the many that come with Lightroom.
Here is a bonus reason:
11. Tethered shooting available for select cameras.
