Most troubles on the putting green are related to being nervous and not being sure about the putt you need to save a par or make the first birdie of the round. A positive mental approach and a repeatable routine on the green are more important than a routine on the tee or in the fairway. This means dropping the club to the ground where you would be impacting the ball. You should be in a pretty neutral stance right now. If you're leaning too far back or too far forward, then you know your golf club's size isn't right. You always want to be standing straight up, not bent over.
It also helps to be using the right club wherever you're playing. If you're on fast-greens then you'll want to use a club with a lighter head to compensate your need for speed. However, if you're playing on a slow-green then you'll want more weight so that you can hit the ball out really far.
