Celebrating Workers' Memorial Day in Middlesex County, NJ |
This past Saturday, dozens of local officials and New Jersey workers met in New Brunswick to celebrate Workers’ Memorial Day. This holiday, celebrated each year on April 28th, commemorates workers who have been killed or injured on the job.
Established in 1989, Workers’ Memorial Day honors the millions who lose their lives or suffer from traumatic illnesses and injuries. The purpose of the holiday is to spread awareness about the need for better health and safety conditions in the workplace.
“This event has special meaning to me,” said Middlesex County Freeholder Deputy Director Ronald G. Rios. “I spent much of my career training employees on occupational health and safety issues and I have seen first-hand how a workplace death or injury can impact a family, a workplace and a community. Even one death is one too many.”
Government agencies, Like the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) strive to set quality standards in job site across the nation. Despite the stringent policies employers must adhere to, people get injured while working every day. Some employers don’t follow the rules and some accidents or occupational exposures are unavoidable.
Every year, over two million people die at work across the globe. More people are killed while working than while fighting in wars. Additionally, there are about 270 million work injuries annually and 160 million cases of work-related illnesses around the world each year.
What should I do if I have been injured in a New Jersey work accident?
You should report the injury immediately if you have been sustained New Jersey work injury. All medical treatment and payment for lost wages should be paid for your employer’s insurance company. If they refuse to pay or deny your claim, contact an experienced Sussex County workers’ comp attorney. Manfred Ricciardelli, a NJ workers comp lawyer, works hard to get justice for his clients.
